Australian Digger Visit

Caloundra RSL Sub Branch members welcomed Australian Digger Corporal John "Rocky" Veneris to their Sub Branch lounge on Saturday 24th October.

This was a special occasion for the members as this digger was one of many who received a "Home Pack" from our Sub Branch. The Sub Branch sent $20,000 worth of Home Packs to Australian Personnel serving in 13 locations throughout the world. Rocky has only one family member which is his father who suffers from alzheimers. The Caloundra RSL Sub Branch members voted 6 months ago to adopt this digger as one of our own.

Rocky gave a power point presentation and talk on the life of the modern soldier in Afghanistan. All the members were very appreciative of the presentation and it provided a better understanding of the conditions our troops serve under. He stayed on afterwards and answered questions from members as well as enjoying the hospitality of the Sub Branch bar.

While Rocky was in Caloundra he took time out to visit the Caloundra Military History Display which is located in the confines of the RSL Club. We invite all ex members of the Australian Defence Forces and the general public to visit the display when they are in Caloundra. The power point presentation will be part of the display in the near future.

Rocky flew back to Sydney on Monday 26th October and promised he will return to Caloundra.
